The raccoon’s scientific name is Procyon lotor. It can be called a coon in places where they are seen often - and with human populations on the rise, they are often seen in areas where there is a lot of trash and lots of human waste to eat. While they are native to North America, they have been introduced in a variety of means to Europe, Asia, and Japan.
They like to live in colder areas, and have a dense undercoat of fur. Their front paws are extremely dexterous, meaning that they are extremely skilled. The raccoon is a nocturnal creature, hunting by night. This is why they are sometimes heard in the trashcans late at night - when everyone has gone to bed or when almost everyone has gone to bed.
