The first virus detected was called 'Creeper' and was found on ARPANET which was the predecessor to the internet. The virus was written by Bob Thomas in 1971. It was used to infect DEC PDP-10 computers that ran the TENEX operating system. Elk Cloner was written by a 15-year old and was designed to infect Apple II computers in 1982.

Elk Cloner ended up being responsible for the first large-scale computer virus outbreak. Macro is not the name of a virus but a type. Macro viruses are written in the same language as certain programs like Microsoft Word or Excel and install software on your computer when certain functions are selected.

The first virus detected was written by Bob Thomas. Called the Creeper it is the oldest known purpose-built virus. The ARPANET was an early version of the internet on the TENEX operating system and it was here where, during the early 1970s, the Creeper sprouted through the system.

It created a message, 'I'm the Creeper, catch me if you can' - no fun to the poor operater. A means of dealing with it was vital. The Reaper program was designed to deal with the wretched Creeper virus.

Creeper -creeper was an experimental self-replicating program written by Bob Thomas at BBNtechnologies in 1971. Creeper used the arpanet to infect dec pdp-10 computers running the tenex operating system. Creeper gained access via the arpanet and copied itself to the remote system where the message," I'mthe creeper, catch me if you can!" was displayed. The reaper program was created to delete creeper. a program called elk cloner was the first computer virus to appear in the wild that is, outside the single computer or lab where it was created.
