Synaptic plasticity

LTP & LTD occur in the nucleus accumbens & in the ventral tegmental ara under NL conditionsdrugs of abuse can mimic or modify these forms of syn plasticity. This is tied into the learning/memory pathway, activating the same neuronal machinery, leading to long-term permanent changes in the neuronal STXR & FXN.
