An earthquake is the rapid movement of the ground which is caused by shifting faults near the Earth’s crust. The severity of the earthquake can be measured by a seismic tool. This severity is called magnitude. The severity can also affect the damage done to the land above.
These damages also include fatalities and injuries of the population. If a country has a high density of population, an earthquake in that area will cause greater damage because more people live in these tighter spaces. The fault lines and the Earth is studied to determine if an earthquake will take place. This study is called geology. Geologists can learn about predicting earthquakes based on the science of Earth.
