North America is bordered on either side by a different ocean. On the east coast is the Atlantic Ocean. On the west coast is the Pacific Ocean. To the south of North America is another continent, South America. In the Atlantic Ocean, you can go swimming and fishing. Many people take cruises across the Atlantic Ocean in order to get to Europe.
There are many ports and major cities located on the coast so that it borders the Atlantic Ocean. However, hurricanes do form on the Atlantic Ocean and that can be dangerous to those people who live near those ports and near those major cities. Usually, when this happens, the people on the coast move inland to be safe.
The Atlantic Ocean is the boundary to the eastern coast of North America. This ocean covers over 40 million square miles in area. There are many different landforms on the ocean floor of the Atlantic Ocean. There are trenches, plains and canyons, to name a few. Since the Atlantic Ocean is from the northern area close to Greenland and then travels all the way down to South America, the temperatures for the water are quite different.
The Atlantic Ocean contains the most salt when compared to the other oceans. The Atlantic Ocean is divided into the three main sections based on its water masses and then each section is subdivided into smaller subsections. There are the upper waters, intermediate waters, and deep and abyssal waters.
