The Andes Mountain is found in South America. It is the longest continental mountain range in the whole world which stretches from the northern to southern part of South America – Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. It is also considered as parallel mountain ranges which are known as cordilleras. Its name is derived from the Spanish word “cordilla” which means rope or chain.
It has an elevation of 22,838 feet, a total length of 7,000 kilometers and a width of 500 kilometers. The Andes Mountains can be divided into three sections: The Southern Andes which is in Argentina and Chile, the Central Andes which is located in Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru and the Northern Andes which is located in Colombia and Venezuela.
