El Salvador is the Central American country with the smallest area. It is only 21,040 square kilometers, compared to Nicaragua’s 130,372 square kilometers. Due to the small area of the country, El Salvador is also the most densely populated country in Central America. The population, as of the most current census, is around 6.38 million people - with a good majority of those people being descended from Europeans who immigrated that married and had kids with the natives.
For the longest time, the economy of El Salvador depended on agriculture. Today, they are trying to make the economy more diverse so that if their main crop crashes - the coffee plant - they will have something to fall back on.
