The capital of Arizona is the city of Phoenix. The city was actually the fifth location that was picked for the capital of Arizona. Until 1901, the capital had a nickname: the “capital on wheels”. The legislative body of Arizona was a travelling body. For the longest time, they carted a building around from the north of the state to the south of the state and back again.
The history gets more interesting as one looks further back into the state’s history. When the Civil War was going on, there were two capitals of Arizona. The confederates picked Tucson, Arizona for the capital, while the union soldiers picked Prescott. The borders we know today for Arizona come from the borders that the union drew.
