Hawaii is the state that is furthest south in the United States. Out of all fifty states, this is the furthest south because it is a chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean. There are eight islands in the chain, and the island of Hawai’i is the largest of them; it’s often called the “big island” to avoid confusion with Hawaii state. It is often called the Aloha state, after how the natives say “hello” - aloha. There are many islands in this chain, and most were formed by volcanic eruptions.
There are still active volcanoes in the area, which makes it a popular spot for tourists. Other reasons people visit Hawaii are the climate, the surfing, and the culture. There are still plenty of ways to experience native Hawaiian culture, despite the effects of colonization on the original people.
