When temperatures fall below the dew point, condensation starts. It typically gets colder as well, because the water from the air is starting to fall back to the earth. This is why fog only happens on cooler days but it isn’t raining. Fog is actually a good example of what happens when the dew point is only passed by a couple of degrees.
And, you can create a dew point at home. All you need is a large can or glass, water, a thermometer, and ice. Fill the glass or can with water, and put the thermometer in the water. Start adding ice until there are water droplets, or condensation, on the can. When you start to see condensation, look at the thermometer. Whatever the temperature is at that point, that’s the dew point for that area. The drier the climate, the lower the dew point is.
