The landform which borders Central Africa in the east is the Western Rift Valley. It is one of the two branches of the Great Valley Rift or the East African rift along with the Eastern Rift Valley. The Western Rift Valley or also known as the Albertine Rift covers the parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. This rift is home to different montane forests, flora and fauna.
It also has different mountains such as the Rwenzori Mountains, Lendu Plateau, Virunga Mountains and Itombwe Mountains. The rift also crosses several lakes and rivers from north to south such as Lake Albert, Lake Rutanzige, Lake Kivu, Lukuga River, Lake Rutanziga, Rutshuru River, Semliki River and Lake Victoria.
