South Africa is the only country in Sub-Saharan Africa with a strong manufacturing base. South Africa has a total area of 1,221,037 square kilometers and a total population of more than 54 million people. South Africa has established a diversified and strong manufacturing base throughout the years which proved their great potential to compete in the world’s economy.
According to sources, South Africa’s manufacturing sector has contributed 15.2% on the country’s total GDP which makes it the third largest contributor to the country’s growing economy. Some of the manufacturing sectors in the country are the following: Agro-processing, automotive, chemicals, ICT and electronics, metals and textiles, clothing and footwear. Other sectors contributing to the South America’s GDP are: mining, electricity, gas and water, construction, transport, personal services and real estate services.
