Lone Star State is the nickname of Texas. It was made official in 2015 through the House Concurrent Resolution No. 777. However, long before 2015, people have considered Texas to be the Lone Star State because of its history. It was originally a province of Mexico and it had the original flag depicting two gold stars in the middle of the red, green and white stripes of the flag of Mexico.
When they finally gained independence from Mexico, they adopted a new flag to show the newly independent Republic of Texas. It was only on December 29, 1845 when they joined as one of the states of the United States of America and with a total area of 696,241 square kilometers, it is considered to be the second largest state behind Alaska.
