The name of the 8,000 strong Manhattan neighborhood now located to the north of the Harlem River is Marble Hill. Originally physically located together will the Manhattan neighborhood, Marble Hill was finally separated from Manhattan and turned into an island in between the Spuyten Durvil Creek on the north and the construction of the Harlem River Ship Canal on its south.
It has an area of 0.38 square kilometers with a total population of more than 9 thousand people. Today, there was still a dispute between whose boroughs Marble Hill belongs to – the Bronx claims its part of their area, but it should be noted that even though Marble Hill became physically part of the Bronx in 1914 because the old Spuyten Durvil Creek was filled in, it still is a legal part of Manhattan.
