The equator is an imaginary line that runs around the center of the earth. This line separates the northern and southern hemispheres of the earth. Areas that are located near the equator are very hot because the temperature at the equator is stifling hot. Therefore, if you live in the northern hemisphere, the further you travel north, the colder it gets. If you live in the southern hemisphere, the further you travel south, the colder it gets.
The equator runs through several countries including Uganda, Congo, Somalia, Kenya and Indonesia to name a few. The equator also runs through bodies of water including the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Lake Victoria and the Molucca Sea. The equator is located at zero degrees.
