Grid references are the places on a map where a grid or coordinates are used. For example, a place may be located on a map and two coordinates are given. To locate the place, find the number across the bottom and across the top. Then see where those lines intersect. The place should be where the lines intersect. The grid should contain 6 numbers across and six numbers down on the grid.
An area reference will be similar in that it is also a grid. However, there are only four numbers. Two numbers are across the bottom and two go up and down. In the same way as the grid reference, area reference can show where a place is located on a map using coordinates.
