The biggest city and the capital of the Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo. Recently, a census showed that Santo Domingo has a population of just under one million people. The Ozama River runs through Santo Domingo which they use for transportation purposes since this river dumps into a larger body of water. Due to Santo Domingo’s tropical climate, it has very hot and humid summers with warm winters.
However, their season doesn’t vary as much due to their tropical climate. Santo Domingo is known for its Zona Colonial which is a historical area that has many ancient buildings dating back to the 1600s. Much of the population includes both Afro-Dominicans and Euro-Dominicans. Due to this city being so close to Haiti, the population has a strong amount of Haitians as well.
