The Earth’s axis is the tilt or angle at which the earth is situated. When the earth rotates, it does this on its axis. The Earth’s orbit allows for winter, spring, summer and fall. The earth tilts on average about 23 degrees. While the earth is tiled on its axis, one pole is closer to the sun while the other pole is further away from the sun.
Halfway through the orbit, the earth turns on its axis and it is reversed with the pole. The pole that as closer to the sun is now further away from the sun. Other planets tilt on an axis but at varying degrees. Mercury only tilts .03 degrees whereas Uranus tilts almost 83 degrees.
