A gorge is a large and long trench in the ground that has very steep sides. It is commonly called a canyon too. Most of the time, a gorge is either created due to a meteor or the weather. Sometimes, a river will meander through the gorge. It is dangerous to look over the cliff into the gorge because of the depth.
Gorges can be found in mountains or in dry areas. Erosion has caused some gorges to be created. For instance, the Snake River Canyon was carved out due to erosion. One of the most notable gorges or canyons in the United States is the Grand Canyon located in Arizona.
