Belize is a nation that is located in Central America. In the late 1700s, Great Britain settled in Belize and took it over. They attacked Spain who also had settled there. After a famous battle at St. George’s Caye, the British became victorious over the Spanish soldiers. Beginning in the 1800s, when Britain ended slavery in Great Britain, they also ended it in Belize.

As a result of this British influence throughout the years due to their settlement there, Belize has a strong English background. They speak English. Before being named Belize, this nation was named British Honduras. In the early 1980s, Belize gained their freedom, but their neighboring country would not believe that they gained their freedom because of the hatred toward Britain.
