The country that is considered to be the poorest in the Western Hemisphere is Haiti. First, it has a high crime rate throughout the country. In the past, the country’s government has been corrupt as well which has contributed to Haiti’s problems with its economy. Many countries have helped Haiti in the years past by providing food, money, and sending missionaries to help the poor people of Haiti.
Haiti’s health care system is troubled as well with an increase in disease and a lack of health care workers or equipment. Diseases plague the country and in 2010 cholera became a problem. This stemmed from the 2010 earthquake which devastated the country. When the large earthquake hit, many countries came to help Haiti.
