The general issues concerning water in Sub-Saharan Africa are the scarcity of fresh water and sanitation which leads to water contamination. It is said that Sub-Saharan Africa greatly suffers from these two general issues because the government is corrupt and mismanages the resources which could have been used to develop their economy’s infrastructure and their environment. Due to these issues, water has been scarce in the area – mainly caused by factors such as drought, flood and contamination – and people are suffering because they do not have access to safe water.
According to some studies conducted by the UN, Sub-Saharan Africa’s insufficient infrastructure is the major reason why they have issues concerning water. Out of all the 980 large dams in there, more or less 580 dams are located in South Africa and the others are unevenly spread throughout the sub-continent.
