Earth is divided by the Equator which divides the Earth into the northern and southern hemisphere through the prime meridian and another meridian at 180 degrees longitude near the location of the International Dateline in the western Pacific Ocean. The Northern hemisphere contains North America, which includes most part of Asia, Europe, the northern part of South America and the northern two thirds of Africa, while the Southern hemisphere contains the remaining parts of South America, Australia, Antarctica, one third of Africa, and a majority of Asia.

The prime meridian and the International Dateline also divide the Earth into Eastern hemisphere which contains half of Antarctica, Asia, Australia, most part of Africa and most part of Europe, and Western hemisphere which contains North America, South America and half of Antarctica.
