Many buildings have collapsed due to several factors such as earthquake, explosion, burning fuel and materials that have deteriorated over time. Buildings were designed to withstand total collapse from these several factors. But, the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001 opened doors for a more safe and secure reinforcement of engineering materials.
Buildings are reinforced against collapse due to the factors mentioned earlier through the usage of following combination of different materials: ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete which can withstand a total strength of 12,000 psi, infill shear walls which greatly increases and improves the load capacity and stiffness of a structure, external shear walls, steel bracings, infill strengthening, RC jackets and steel jackets, to name a few.
