Woodlice bugs, also known as a pill bug or roly poly bug, is a small insect with a long exoskeleton with fourteen jointed limbs. Woodlice are nocturnal bugs and feed on dead plant material. Woodlice get their nicknames of roly poly or pill bug from their defense mechanism that makes them roll into a perfect sphere when they feel threatened.
Woodlice are considered pests in most cases, but they are also beneficial to gardens. Overturning soil and producing compost is a benefit to gardeners, but there is a downside to having them in your garden, as they tend to feed on plants such as tender seedlings and strawberries.
