Orangutan. Orangutans live in trees in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Unlike most apes, they’re pretty solitary, spending very little time in groups. (Compare that to chimps, gorillas, and humans, the other great apes, which are extremely social!) Orangutans are also unusual in that they spend almost all of their time in the trees. Most apes spend a lot of time on the ground because of their large size.
Adult male gorillas, for example, are too big to climb trees. But orangutans, despite being large, live almost exclusively in the trees. The other options are not apes at all – crickets are a family of insects. The Emperor Penguin is a large swimming bird that lives around the Antarctic. And the kakapo is a strange species of large, ground-dwelling parrot.
