The lifespan of an elephant depends on which species of elephant is being spoken of. The Asian elephant can live up to 48 years. The African forest elephant and the African bush elephant can both live up to between 60 and 70 years old. Elephants are one of the few animals, besides humans, that can live for so long. It all comes down to how they eat and how they live.
Elephants eat a variety of plant life, so they get all the energy that they can without having to worry about eating more than they need to to feel full. They get a lot of exercise by walking around for food and for bathing themselves. They also have the ability to smell water, so they are always well hydrated.
