Chicken actually don’t have teeth. They’re one of many bird species - and not a single species of bird has teeth. Instead, they have other ways of grinding and chomping and chewing up their food. Some birds are able to open nuts and swallow them whole. Others will regurgitate half-digested food for their kids. However, chickens are an interesting study in the bird world. Because they are so widely available, so is chicken DNA.
Recent studies have shown that, in special cases, chickens actually can have teeth. It’s so rare, though, that no one has seen it happen outside of a laboratory yet. This suggests that there’s something that has been missed in biology: as an animal evolves, certain genes aren’t lost. The ability to turn them on and use them at the right time is what’s lost.
