The aardvark can dig a two foot deep hole in fifteen seconds. This seems like an odd depth to most of us because the holes humans dig are typically six feet, but this is how far down the aardvark’s favorite foods are. The aardvark likes to eat ants and termites, doing humans a favor by keeping them from getting into the house.
The hole allows the aardvarks to take advantage of their sticky tongue. These tongues are only up to a foot (or twelve inches) long, which isn’t long enough to get their food from anything shallower than two feet. Since it only takes fifteen seconds for an aardvark to dig this hole, it allows them to get to their food quickly.
