The gavial crocodile can grow to be between twelve and fifteen feet. They are a critically endangered species, so the more that get up to this size, the better for the species. The crocodiles live in India and Nepal today. Despite their endangerment, they have some tricks up their sleeves to ensure they get to their longest in the wild. One of these tricks is that they can sense vibrations in the water.
This allows them to find prey, and then eat it. To eat the prey they sense, they don’t just lunge at the prey. Instead, they whip their jaw back and forth and catch the fish in their jaws. This also eliminates the need to stalk their prey, keeping them relatively safer than their stalking counterparts.
