Spider monkeys can’t fly; they jump from tree to tree. So, it is possible that they could jump thirty feet, but the distance between trees is much closer to ten feet, or less than that. Like most monkeys, they live most of their lives in the tree tops. Unlike other species of monkeys, however, they don’t have opposable thumbs.
Despite this lack of an opposable thumb, they are able to hold onto the trees with a lot of strength. Their tail is one of the strongest limbs of their body for this reason. This hanging from the tail is where their name comes from. When they hang from their tails, they look like a giant spider crossed with a monkey.
