Direct and indirect characterization have many similiarities and differences. They are similiar because they are both types of characterization and they both help give the reader a sense of the characters. Even though they both help the reader, they do it in different ways. Direct characterization tells the reader how something is without implying it in any way.
Indirect characterization is the opposite, as it imply information through dialogue, thoughts, actions, etc. An example of indirect characterization from the novel would be on page 128, when lily realizes that she is actually crying for zach. It shows that she is very confused with her emotions. Basically it is just implying that she is still a child and she still doesnt know exactly what is going on in her life. This example is totally different from an example of direct characterization where the author would just come out and tell you that she is confused about her feelings.
