Milling machine arbors are assembled in various lengths and in standard diameters. The milling machine spindle can be self-holding or self-releasing. The self-holding taper held in the spindle taper in many milling machines is self-releasing.
Tooling must be kept in place by a draw bolt extending from within the middle of the spindle. Arbors are furnished with one of three tapers to fit the milling machine spindle. The end of the arbor on the opposite side of the taper is braced by the arbor supports of the milling machine.
One or more braces reused depending on the length and arbor and the degree of rigidity required. Also, tightening the arbor nut only as much as will let your wrench loosen it while you hold the blade safely with your hard is exactly tight enough.
