The M1928 Thompson is a sub-machine gun that was invented by an American General John T. Thompson in 1918. It was used during the Prohibition era. It earned a lot of names such as Tommy Gun, Annihilator, the Thompson, Chicago style, Chicago piano, and many more.

In 1919, Thompson’s company, the Auto-Ordinance Company offered the gun to the public for sales, with its first production of M1921 because of its fast sales, an improvement in the model was suggested.

In 1926, a cuts compensator was used to control muzzle climb on full fire. In 1928, M1928 was produced by the Federal laboratories. Thompson submachine gun was adopted by the US army in 1928. It was used in the World War ll by the U.S and British armies.

The Thompson was invented in 1918, not 1928. It was used in the early Prohibition period in the earlier 1920's.
