Hematocrit refers to the percentage (by volume) of packed red blood cells in a centrifuged sample of blood. Normal range for hematocrit is approximately 45% to 52% for men and 37% to 48% for women.
Hemoglobin is an iron-containing substance in red blood cells that transports oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body; it consists of a protein (globulin), and haem (a porphyrin ring with an atom of iron at its centre). The normal Hb level for males is 14 to 18 g/dl for females is 12 to 16 g/dl.
