Why is it written hydrochoric not Hydrochloric. Hydrochloric acid gives pepsin the write conditions(a PH of 2) to break down proteins into polypeptides and then to amino acids.

The type of acid that breaks down food in your stomach is hydrochloric acid.
Hydrochloric acid(HCl) is secreted by principal cells in the stomach. It is the only type of acid found in the stomach.

It activates pepsinogen into the enzyme pepsin. Pepsin breaks up the peptides from the protein. HCl helps in killing and protecting the stomach from bacteria and other harmful organisms.
