The national cancer institue recommends that women have their first pap test about 3 years after the first time they have sex, or when they reach age 21 (whichever comes first). women should keep getting pap tests every 1 to 3 years. If a woman is 30 or older, an hpv test may be done along with the pap test.
Women 65 and older should talk with their doctor or nurse about whether and when they should get a pap test. The nci recommends that each woman talk with her doctor or nurse about how often she should have a pap test.
