Mrs. Joe can be considered to be a very cruel woman. The fact that she is verbally abusive already says a lot about the type of person that she is. She has not become cruel for no reason though. The answer to this is letter A. She hates the fact that she has been left to care for Pip.

This is why she is mean to Pip all the time. Take note that at this time, Pip is not in his best condition. He is still grieving the loss of his parents. He was suddenly given to the care of his brother but it is his brother’s sister who was assigned to care for him.
