Slowing down is always a smart idea at night or when the weather is bad. Other tips include using your headlights as soon as it becomes slightly dark, or at dusk. Make sure the headlights are clean and both are functioning, especially for night driving.
Many drivers prefer to dim their instrument panel at night for safety reasons, as the extra light is distracting and can impair your vision at night. Looking directly at the headlights of oncoming cars, even briefly, can blind you for a few seconds. Instead, you can look to the side the headlights, not at them.
