Texas and Kansas average the most tornadoes each year. Other sections of the plains and Midwest also have a high-level number of tornadoes annually. The Northeast and West have the lowest number of annual tornadoes.
April is the first month that tornadoes become a severe problem for those who live in an region with a high occurrence of tornadoes. Tornado season lasts for three months. Texas and Kansas are the most active, with Texas having around 155 tornadoes and Kansas having around 96 in an average year.
These states are both located in the heart of Tornado Alley. Altogether, the major states for tornadoes include Texas, Kansas, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Colorado. These states, on average, have between 51 to 66 tornadoes annually.
