What are the most appropriate guidelines for the student to follow in preparing the speech of introduction?

I would love to know what topic to google and research in order to better know the answer. I did guess, "be brief, keeping the focus of the speech on the visiting author" correctly. I tried to recall a time when a speaker was introduced to me and think about what information was given in those instances.
