Thomas Malthus is known for a theory about population and food supply. He came to the conclusion that population growth will always exceed the amount of the food supply. He was in favor of imposing limits on the number of children families could have in order to keep this in check. He published his work on population in 1798, well before the agricultural revolution.
His beliefs were later called Malthusianism in his honor. The advances in machinery and crops created during the agricultural revolution disproved his theories, as the food production eventually exceeded the need.
