Desmosome means a structure where two cells are attached by filaments. It is also known as macula adhaerens. This makes the tissue much stronger in these areas. They are found in animal tissues and in place that have a lot of force applied to them. Examples of desmosomes would be the myocardium, which is a heart muscle, and in the outer layer of our skin.
They are also found in parts of the lungs and the esophagus. They require three components to adhere properly and all three are required for this to desmosomes to work correctly.
