The acronym APIE stands for the process and procedures that a nurse must do when they first approach a patient. These letters stand for assess or analyze, plan, implement and evaluate. So, the nurse would first assess the patient’s behavior and actions based on the perceived thoughts about their problem. Then the nurse would plan a course of action whether it be to administer medicine, do a procedure or other thing.
Then they will implement their actions. Last, the nurse will evaluate the patient to see that the patient is getting better or worse. If these steps are done to take care of a patient, then this will help the patient get better. These steps don’t need to just take place at a hospital, but any time a nurse is helping someone.
