Blood flows through special channels in its course around the body. It needs to travel around the body in special channels that transport it around the body and help it to traverse the different systems. The course it follows is from the aorta to the arteriole to the capillary to the venule and then to the vein. Each part of the circuit has special characteristics which allows the blood to flow perfectly and deliver its nutrients.
The arteries are thick walled and muscular to withstand the high blood pressure, the arterioles are muscular to regulate local tissue flow, the capillaries are thin which helps them deliver nutrients and take up waste products.
