All organisms are comprised of cells, in a species these cells are the same, all cells derive from previous cells. Cytosomes is more limited in this respect as it is part of a cell - the body of the cell apart from its nucleus. Modern cell theory, essentially, regards cells as fundamental building blocks in the framework of all living organisms.
