Generally, there are two types of social control functions, namely: Informal social control and Formal Social control. Informal social control is the type of social control function that corresponds to the values and norms of the society. It refers to the adaption of popular belief systems that can be picked up through socialization.
This type of social control function is usually enforced by family members, peers, caretakers, and other authoritative figures, such as teachers, coaches, and mentors. On the other hand, Formal social control is the type of social control that is produced by governments and laws. Policemen, member of federal agencies, and the military are the ones that enforce this type of social control.
