The biome that has the lowest temperature is known as the Tundra biome. Expect that the winters in this biome are going to be long, dark, and also very cold. While in some biomes, winter will not last very long, expect that it will last for about 6 to 10 months here.

Those who live here would need to be prepared for long winters. The temperature of this biome is going to be so cold that the ground below the surface will already be frozen. The permafrost is one of the characteristics that will let you know what type of biome you are checking out. Take note that while temperatures may change every day, Tundra will always have the coldest temperatures.

The tundra has the lowest temperature of the biomes. It is the coldest of them all. It also receives just a small amount of rain, which makes this tundra to share similarities with a desert. Tundra can be found in many regions that are just a bit below the ice caps of the Arctic, which extends and cuts across Northern America all through to Europe and then to Siberia in the Asian continent. Very much of Alaska and around half of Canada fall in the tundra biome.

This tundra is discovered to be at the apex or pinnacle of some very high mountains in some places in the world. The temperatures are extremely cold, but they get a bit warm during the summer. Their winters are very dark, long, and so cold. The average temperature usually falls less than zero degrees Celsius for over six months to ten months and at times a whole year.

Permafrost is any soil or rock that has been frozen underneath the ground for at least two years. Ground ice is not required to be present for there to be permafrost. In certain places, it can be discovered directly under the earth’s surface. Permafrost can be a couple of inches thick. However, it typically thaws out in the summer months. If it is near the Arctic Circle, it can be as thick as over 2000 feet. Permafrost stones are the carbon of dead animals and frozen plants before they had a chance to decompose. The lowest temperature of permafrost is the Boreal Forest. Boreal forests are flourishing from the abundance of life that can endure the frosty temperatures throughout the year. Individual animals such as Caribou reindeer or organisms migrate long distances every winter to survive.
