He thinks it expresses more precisely how he feels. Jonas is a fictional character from the novel The Giver. This novel was written by Lois Lowry and is a part of the young adult genre. The Giver is part of the novel series called The GIver Quartet.

The other books in the series include Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son. Jonas is also known as the Leader, and he is the main character in the novel. He is intellectual and compared to his friends, he thinks about life in a more severe manner.
