EEG identifies electrical activity in your brain using small metal discs attached to your scalp. Your brain cells communicate through electrical impulses, and they are constantly active and in motion. The activity comes up as wavy lines on the EEG recording. An EEG is one of the major diagnostic tools used to detect epilepsy or other seizure disorders.

EEG can ascertain changes in brain activity that might help diagnose brain disorders. EEG might also help diagnose and treat brain tumors, brain damage from injury, brain dysfunction, inflammation, stroke, or sleep disorders. It can also confirm brain death in someone who has been in a persistent coma. A continuous EEG helps locate the correct amount of anesthesia to give for someone in a medically induced coma.

EEG stands for Electroencephalography. This is a type of procedure that will be done whenever there are some patients who are suspected to have certain conditions. This procedure will help determine the type of condition that the patients have so that proper treatments will also be recommended.

A lot of patients who have epilepsy will show some EEG alterations that may happen while the procedure is taking place. This is very useful because this will allow doctors to see the brain activity that is happening in real time. The only problem with this is that medical practitioners still need to determine where the brain activity is coming from to correctly form a diagnosis.

EEG is perhaps most useful when it comes to predicting seizure relapse or to diagnose, as well as monitor seizure disorders. However, you may be wondering what EEG actually means, EEG means Electroencephalogram. EEG actually refers to a kind of test that is used to detect problems that have to do with the electrical activity of the brain.

An EEG functions by tracking and recording the wave patterns of the brain. Small metal discs that are with thin wires, called electrodes, would be placed on the scalp, after which the computer receives the signal and record the result. A recognizable pattern is made by normal electrical activity in the brain.

EEG can help the doctors to check for abnormal pattern, which might show seizures and other problems. Other problems that can be detected by EGGs include changes in behavior and sleep disorders. It can actually be more effective in children than adults.

An EEG is a test used to emulate the electrical activity in the brain. Small, flat metal discs called electrodes are connected to the scalp with wires. The electrode evaluates the brain's electrical impulses, and it sends signals to a computer that records the results. An EEG can help identify issues in the brain's electrical activity related to specific brain disorders. An EEG may substantiate or cancel out a plethora of conditions. Some of these include seizure disorders, head injuries, brain tumors, sleep problems, stroke, dementia, memory problems, or other brain dysfunction. When somebody is in a coma, an EEG may be performed to determine the degree of brain activity. This test can also monitor activity during brain surgery—basically, an EEG tracks and records brain wave patterns.
